One of my employment contracts gives me the privilege of teaching college students in a post-secondary environment. Recently, as part of a training offered at this institution, I took a Mental Health course in which we talked briefly about this new school of thought called Positive Psychology. From what I understand, it's supposed to compliment the treatment of Mental Illnesses by helping people to achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle, through positive thinking and positive goal-setting. I was reminded of this in our reading by Curtis J. Bank when he mentioned inter-institutional collaboration because information about this rare new school of thought has recently become publicly available through Harvard University and YouTube. Apparently, the entire course has been posted lecture by lecture on YouTube. How interesting to think of what a massively progressive step this is in the future of education. While I can't foresee post-secondary education becoming accessible and free for everyone at any point soon, I do see this as a step in the right direction. I for one, was very excited by the possibility of being able to take this class that isn't being offered yet in Canadian schools.
